The Orangery is a total sensory environment that imbues its visitors with a feeling of calm and tranquillity, and it’s been a hit with staff and patients alike. The innovative design has also attracted the attention of critics and in 2005 it won a prestigious national RIBA award, and was shortlisted for several others.

We took an unloved and unused roof area and transformed it into a therapeutic sanctuary of warm timber, natural light and greenery. A striking sculptural pavilion of timber and glass with and an integrated landscaped area outside, this is far from the usual hospital canteen experience.
