The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) were relocating 40 people from across the business to the London head office in Cavendish Square. It highlighted the need to review how the space was organised in terms of efficiency, flexibility and ability to meet the needs of staff, members and external visitors.
We carried out an in-depth piece of workplace consultancy to gain an understanding of the working culture, relationships between teams, work processes, interaction patterns, spatial opportunities and business vision. This information was then used to develop a tailor-made, long-term design strategy and ways of working.
Working alongside the estates team, we pioneered the move from a cellular-office culture to open-plan working. This included the design of the 'exchange office' concept which we then rolled out across RCN’s property portfolio in Edinburgh, Bury St. Edmonds, Birmingham and Sunderland.
Our open and flexible approach has helped us to establish an exceptionally collaborative working relationship with the RCN – working successfully together on projects for over ten years.
