Every year we head off on our annual surprise summer party for a well-deserved break. This year the party was a little different... With the festival season just kicking off, coupled with the incredible heat wave, the Spacelab party committee, aka chief event organiser Siobhan, decided that it was the perfect opportunity to host our very first ‘Lab Fest’!
Although everyone had been told to expect a festival themed event, all other details had been kept a secret! So, with no clue where we were heading, or exactly what was in store, the team arrived at Victoria Station early Thursday afternoon with plenty of pimms and hula hoops in tow.
After an hour or so on the train we got off in the beautiful city of Chichester. A short taxi ride later and we had arrived at the venue - a sustainable yurt village set within the beautiful woodland of the Sussex countryside! Featuring luxury yurts, a wood-fired hot tub, paddling pool, inflatable flamingos and hammocks, it was the perfect place to chill out and switch off.
With drinks in hand we kicked off our very first Lab Fest with a steel drum workshop hosted by the very talented, and it has to be said, very patient, Steelpan Agency. By the end they had miraculously managed to get all of us playing both in time and in tune - a true testament to their coaching skills!
Throughout the afternoon various activities, from poetry to hula hooping, kept us all entertained, even unearthing a few hidden talents along the way. Finally, as the sun set, the main tent was transformed into our very own main stage, providing us with the perfect platform to show off our questionable singing talent alongside a live band.
By far and away this was the perfect way to relax, have fun, and escape the hustle and bustle. From everyone at Spacelab we’d like to say a huge thank you to Siobhan, who once again has managed to organise the very best summer party and kick Lab Fest off to a great start, Katherine, Sami, Dani and Joe for all their help, and Nicki for successfully managing to herd us on to the train at Victoria.
We can’t wait to see what the next Lab Fest has in store for us!
