After acquiring 8,000sq.ft in the iconic Grade II listed Heal's building on Tottenham Court Road, advertising agency mcgarrybowen turned to us to design and implement their interior scheme in just 12 weeks.
The space presented us with two key challenges: to improve connectivity and integration between the building's three compartments and to overcome quality differences between the workspaces.
Spacelab helped mcgarrybowen embrace a new agile way of working and the space was transformed to support this. An opening and staircase were placed at the junction of the three compartments to create a central circulation zone for chance interaction. The double height space was transformed into the heart of the agency with flexible touchdown tables, informal meeting booths, a reception and kitchen. Sporadic use of bold colour adds a contemporary and playful aesthetic against the base scheme and complements the original character of the building.
