Trowers & Hamlins

Trowers & Hamlins is an international law firm. We recently embarked on a journey with them to explore how the firm is evolving to shape their future ways of working. Through extensive employee engagement, we developed the design concept ‘Common Ground’, which embraces the City of Birmingham’s diversity and the firm's values of inclusivity, community and expertise. The design celebrates that everyone is different. Their teams are open, agile and are not afraid to be human. But their shared interests, beliefs and ideas create common ground. And, we have created shared activity spaces which reflect their coming together.

Striking ribbed feature walls in dark ink and industrial modern metals flank one side of the floor plate. In contrast, on the opposing side, the meeting rooms are dressed in light timber and soft, neutral textures. Between these spaces, there is a coming together of materials. A juxtaposition of hard and soft, light and dark, rough and smooth.

Using innovative, climate-friendly materials ensures a considered design that endures over the years. Their Birmingham office was completed at the end of last year, with occupancy beginning in December 2024.
